Anything that is holding you back and keeping you from your day-to-day commitments and responsibilities is an "addiction". If you can admit that the addiction is more powerful than you, then you have a problem and you've made the first step.

The God Gene
This weekend I watched a documentary about how people who are in touch with God during prayer have the same brain activity as someone who is on drugs. In other words, you can reach Nirvana or that spiritual place that you desire from drug use by praying instead! Isn't that great news!
The God Gene by Dean Hamer, a geneticist, has done much research on this topic. So now when we feel we need a drink, we can just pray and get to that same place :)
